The Academy Awards... GVSU Style.
The Grand Valley Film Academy (GVFA) serves as the pioneer of a bigger platform for students to display their film & video work, and not just things that they’ve made for classes. Any student attending GVSU is allowed to submit virtually anything they've made to our festival.
Another special element of the GV Film Academy is our unique promotional period. All participants that have submitted films are urged to submit film posters and trailers to us to better their chances of winning awards at the Ceremony. As we have teamed up with both the Promotions Office and GVTV, posters will be shared throughout GVSU's campus as well as on our website, and trailers will be broadcasted on GVTV's network. GVFA is also collaborating with Whale Radio and other platforms to advertise the festival and student productions as they would be in a renowned film festival. The Grand Valley Film Festival is annual, and split between two semesters. The Fall semester is dedicated to submission and festival promotion, while the Winter semester is dedicated to events, premieres, and the culminating Academy Awards Ceremony. Unique to GVFA, a select panel of several moderators and judges are chosen on an outsource & volunteer basis to fairly accredit each submission and judge them equally. No judges that have submitted to the festival may judge their own works. Categories for judging are not solely according to the genre of the film, but also according to skill level, sound design, editing, set design, acting, and more. The Academy Awards is a formal event, complete with GVSU talent performances such as the University Singers and Select Womens' Ensemble, a red carpet, and a backdrop with all collaborator logos displayed where nominees will be photographed and interviewed. It will be held on the GVSU Pew Campus, within the Loosemore Auditorium (seats 232) where the film/video showcases are normally held. The Grand Valley Film Academy hopes that the festival and awards ceremony will give students the experience of a real, large-scale film festival, and that it will provide an exciting platform for all students to display their work and participate in the arts at GVSU. It is an event that you absolutely won't want to miss. |
